Pattern Editor DXF import bug

#1 Post by Tomg » 26 Mar 2023, 05:17

(DipTrace v4.3.0.4)
A DXF file named "Original.dxf" was exported (AutoCAD 2018 format) from a drawing created in Alibre Design specifically for this post. The Alibre Design drawing was carefully constructed with straight lines and arcs, employing tangent constraints and frequent error-checking with the Analyze tool looking for gaps and misalignments. "Original.dxf" was then imported into the DipTrace PCB Layout editor with line widths purposely kept at 0 mm to clearly show there are no obvious alignment problems between individual elements of the imported drawing (see inset #1).

Importing "Original.dxf" into the Pattern Editor yields small alignment errors with arc placement (see inset #2).

A second DXF file named "Polylines.dxf" was created by exporting the PCB Layout drawing. The DipTrace DXF export process apparently converts arcs into groups of polylines. Importing "Polylines.dxf" into the Pattern Editor shows no alignment errors. This may be due to the presence of nothing but straight polylines and the absence of arcs (see inset #3).

These results appear to demonstrate that the Pattern Editor's DXF importer has problems with precise arc placement. Apparently, the PCB Layout's DXF importer does not have this bug.

Both DXF test files can be found in the zip folder below...
