Copper, soldermask & silkscreen in STEP export

#1 Post by flyingfishfinger » 01 Mar 2023, 07:36

Hi,
It would be nice to get silkscreen/soldermask & copper in the STEP export. Past requests for this feature were replied to with "We planned this, but ditched it because the files would be too big". Should that not be up to the end user?

Most other major CAD package allow this, and if the files do become too large - the different parts of the board can be turned off.

Converting VRML to STEP is totally unuseable for dimensioning, and "pasting a picture of the copper features" onto the STEP export as others have suggested is not great either. How are the mechanical engineers supposed to study the stackup, for example?

It would be nice if that feature could be reconsidered.
