DipTrace 5.0 release

We have released 5.0 today. You can download it here: https://diptrace.com/download/download-diptrace/

Upgrade is free for all customers, who ordered version 4.X or upgrade to 4.X after October 31, 2022.

The list of new features:
1. Push and Shove Router (pushing traces and vias for manual routing).
2. Digital SPICE Simulator.
3. Plugins + documentation how to make plugins with any programming language.
4. Examples of plugins with source codes:
- Make solder mask openings for selected trace segments (Object Pascal, Delphi);
- Make dashed/dotted lines (C#).
5. PCB Calculator:
- Trace Width, Clearance, Current, Resistance;
- Transmission Line and Differential Pair Width, Gap, Impedance;
- Width, Length, Gap and Layer Stackup could be set by selected trace/layout settings or manually.
6. Planar Inductors: adjusting parameters and placing to layout or saving to library.
7. Cross Selection and Highlight between PCB and Schematic.
8. "Place selected by list" option in PCB Layout (allows to select blocks in Schematic and make component placement in PCB Layout by using cross selection feature).
9. Via Stitching for copper pours, polygons, board.
10. Via Shielding for traces.
11. Export Schematic and PCB to PDF directly.
12. IPC-2581 (revision C) export.
13. KiCAD Netlist Import/Export.
14. Updating PCB from Netlist of any third-party software.
15. Assigning any copper layer shape to pad in Pattern Editor.
16. Wire/Trace color transfer between PCB and Schematic (Convert to PCB / Update from Schematic / Back annotate).
17. Changing font size and type globally for connection without wires and displayed net names in Schematic.
18. Library an 3D model updates.

I have downloaded V5, but I cannot get the new cross selection and highlight to work. This is a feature I have really missed, so I'm a bit dissapointed when it doesn't work... Is there something I have missed? Or is this feature not in the first release?

Hi All,

We have updated DipTrace to version 5.0.0.1 today:

The list of changes and bug-fixes if compare to 5.0.0.0:

1. Push and Shove Router:
- significant improvement in pushing vias and "traces with vias";
- several issues and bugs have been found and fixed.
2. Fixed: graphics behavior for round-rect/obround pads in "Highlight Net" feature in PCB Layout (graphics speed optimization was made in 5.0, but some things didn't work as expected).
3. Fixed: BOM was not made correctly for the components with the assigned supplier. We were forced to remove Octopart support due to their updated policy. Remote feature turning-off didn't work correctly for the components previously assigned with it. Starting from 5.0.0.1 BOM works correctly for all components and we are looking for a new component supplier API/engine.
4. Fixed: significant speed and progress displaying behavior in Via Stitching feature.
5. Fixed: traces were not imported from the latest versions of KiCAD file format.
6. Restoring window size and position when reopening any of the programs.
7. Fixed: pin signal for spice model was entered and saved correctly only in the field under signal table, but not directly in the table.
8. Fixed: non-standard short-circuit settings may cause reporting of nonexistent errors after Schematic start and until ERC window opening.

We continue to improve, polish and test push traces/vias algorithm, then will add more settings and apply it to all program features (placing/moving objects, editing traces, etc). Also 4 new import/export formats and improving model support for Spice are in process.

It feels annoying that after installing V5, the new cross selection and highlight feature isn't functioning. There are a number possible causes for this, including incorrectly adjusted settings or a feature that was restricted in the first version. For problem advice, I suggest looking at the official documentation or forums.

It is just turned off by default. You can enable it from Edit/Cross Selection.

Could you please provide more details why it is a bug? This is the first version of cross-selection and we will try to improve it based on reports and suggestions. Feedback from other customers seems to be OK, however any critics are welcome.

Are the Schematic/PCB/3D libraries the same?
Can it be installed over an existing V4 installation?

Yes, it can be installed over an existing V4. There are additional libraries and models, but generally are the same.
