Importing NC rout files

#1 Post by LarryA » 05 Sep 2023, 13:48

I have some older PCB designs which exported NC rout files. When I try to import them as an NC drill file I get nothing to import.
The slot locations and size are critical items which I do not want to measure and estimate.

Does anyone have a method from importing rout.nc files?

Try to import NC rout files as Gerber. If that doesn't work please send the files for investigation.

Hey there,

I understand your frustration with trying to import your older PCB designs in the form of rout.nc files and encountering issues. It can be quite challenging when critical information like slot locations and sizes are at stake. However, fear not, as there are methods available to help you overcome this obstacle. One potential solution is to utilize specialized software or PCB design tools that are capable of importing and interpreting rout.nc files accurately. These tools often have features specifically designed to handle complex routing data, including slots and their dimensions. By utilizing such software, you can ensure that your critical items are preserved and accurately represented in the imported design. Additionally, it might be beneficial to reach out to PCB design communities or forums where experienced individuals can provide guidance based on their own experiences. They may have encountered similar issues and can offer insights or alternative approaches to import rout.nc files successfully. Don't hesitate to explore these options and leverage the expertise of others in the field. Good luck, and may your PCB design endeavors be fruitful!

You can send the file to DipTrace support https://diptrace.com/support/request-support/ and I will investigate it.

Alex, thanks but there is no need now, I was able to bring the rout file into a Gerber viewer and get all the dimensions I needed to reproduce the routs
There was a "G40" code which was causing errors in DipTrace when interpreting the file, the file was from 2008 btw.
