Update placed BOM

#1 Post by randee » 30 Nov 2020, 13:31

Add ability to update a placed BOM with a right-click or menu command, or maybe an option to auto-update whenever schematic refs / values / names are changed.

Having to manually re-place the BOM each time a change is made is inconvenient, and prone to errors i.e. mismatch between schematic and BOM.

It would be great if, when grouping a large number of components in a row, their RefDes were reduced.
Example:
R1,R2,R3,R4,R5 -> R1...R5
C1,C4,C5,C6,C7 -> C1,C4...C7

Add a property to a component that prevents it from being added to the BOM.
For example, for SMD jumpers or optional components.

Thank you for the suggestion about reducing RefDes numbers.

We added assembly variants in version 4.1. You can create a variant where one of several components are excluded and this will be applied when you export BOM and Pick and Place.

I use v4.1 and want to use the BOM variant option. How do I access this feature? The manual say use a "..." button, well there is not "..." on the BOM pop up window. Thanks.

I believe this feature is only available in the PCB Layout editor. It is my understanding (could be wrong of course) that it might be added to the Schematic Editor in the near future.

Great idea, save editing the P&P file, now please add text in the Assembly Variant window that explains 'Uncheck to Exclude from P&P' for those of us with short memories.

"I believe this feature is only available in the PCB Layout editor"

Tom, thank you for the answer. Variants only show up in the layout editor. Also, the schematic BOM export does not group like parts together on a BOM.

Are you talking about doing something like this?...
