SC-70 patterns named SOT23

#1 Post by Exality » 01 Jul 2020, 16:50

When I set a pattern filter in the Component Editor for "SC-70" I get a total of 9 hits, all of which have "SOT23" at the start of their names. The pattern dimensions seem to be correct, but SOT23 is the wrong name. SOT23 is a bigger footprint, with e.g. 0.95 mm lead pitch instead of the 0.65 of the SC-70.

It looks like the search engine is including "Additional Fields" for some unknown (to me) reason. I see "SC-70-5" in the Unique Name field of the first item in the search list that uses a SOT-23 pattern.

...EDIT...

Assuming the Wikipedia article on the small outline transistor found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small-outline_transistor is correct, the DipTrace pattern generator example shown below displays incorrect names for both the standard pattern and the unique pattern when the lead pitch is 0.65mm. Apparently, the Standard Pattern Name should begin with "SOT323" and the Unique Pattern Name should contain "SC-70-3". Maybe this is at the root of what now appears to be a class of DipTrace pattern naming errors. Keep in mind that all of this speculation is just a "SWAG" on my part.

Reading further down into the Wikipedia article leads me to believe that a Unique Pattern Name containing "SC-70-5" should cross-reference to a Standard Pattern Name beginning with "SOT353", and a Unique Pattern Name containing "SC-70-6" should cross-reference to a Standard Pattern Name beginning with "SOT363". All of these names would be consistent with a lead pitch of 0.65mm.

It would be nice to hear from Novarm on this matter.

The SOT23 is the common name for SOT23, SOT323(SC-70), SOT416(SC-90) and other packages, which have the similar geometric configuration, except a pin pitch. The Unique Name can include JEDEC Name, JEITA Name and/or manufacturer name and it is used while filtering by Name.
