Bug in DipTrace-generated STEP file

#1 Post by Tomg » 04 Aug 2019, 18:11

I created a basic 3D model of a Bourns potentiometer using Alibre Design 2019 and exported it as a STEP file. When the STEP file is imported into the DipTrace 3.3.1.3 Pattern Editor, the potentiometer looks fine. When the potentiometer is viewed using the 3D Preview tool in the PCB Editor, everything still looks fine.

After saving the DipTrace PCB Editor 3D Preview to a STEP file and then looking at the DipTrace-generated STEP file in Alibre Design 2019, the semi-circular alignment tab on the front of the potentiometer falls apart. The presence or absence of the circuit board has no effect on this outcome.

If I import the original Alibre Design 2019-generated STEP file (properly displayed in both the DipTrace Pattern Editor and PCB Editor 3D Preview tool) back into Alibre Design 2019, the potentiometer is correctly rendered. This leads me to believe that there is a bug in DipTrace's STEP file generator as all renderings inside DipTrace seem to be accurate until DipTrace regurgitates the 3D Preview into its own version of a STEP file.

I can post both STEP files if anyone is interested.
