To avoid having to draw a short wire between closely-spaced components, make DipTrace connect components when they are brought near each other and the little squares at the pin ends overlap (or are within snap distance).
In essence, connect the components without showing a wire, but this is not the same as the "connect without wire" option when connecting to a net, and more convenient than drawing a wire and then hiding it.

We thought about auto-connection closely-spaced components in the beginning but decided to not do it. The reason is avoiding accidental short connections when editing and rotating components and group of them.
