V-score gerber

#1 Post by whitebream » 23 Jun 2021, 22:00

As of version 4 there are improvements in the panelization feature.
One of the improvements is a separate gerber file for the V-score lines.

I agree that this makes sense in principle as the scoring is a separate production step.
However, in practice, this separate file only results in confused questions from PCB manufacturers.
They probably don't look further than the board outline file and then complain that it's incomplete.

I think it would be good if we could have the option to include the V-scoring lines in the board outline.

Thank you for offering. By default the gerber file name is "V-Scoring.gbr". Probably this should be clear for PCB manufacturer.

Well, there are two issues with this assumption;
1- most boards are produced in china, and for the average Chinese production fellow, our english filenames make just as much sense as 随机.gbr to us...
2- most online ordering systems take a bunch of default layers and ignore non-standard stuff such as readme files, mechanical layers and apparently also scoring gerbers.

When you export Gerber files you can hold Ctrl key and select multiple layers at once (board outline and v-scoring) on the list of export gerber dialog window and export them into single file.
