pad sizes in pattern libraries

#1 Post by gleng » 15 Jul 2018, 22:04

When using DIP parts I generally have a large pad on the bottom layer for easy soldering and a small pad on the top layer to improve routability. I can't find a way in DipTrace to make the pads on different layers different sizes. The other packages I've used have all let me do that. Is there a way to do it in DipTrace?

Thank you.

There is no way to define different pad shape/size on different layers. But there are following workarounds:
1. You can use "Hide Pad Ring in Layer" in PCB Layout to reduce pad size to hole size on top layer.
2. You can set top layer as plane, then set fixed ring for through-hole pads in layer setup.
3. You can put additional bottom shapes (bottom SMD pads) over through-hole pads.

Option 3 sounds like a good solution. I'll try it out. Thanks.
