making component from pattern

#1 Post by Malc-C » 23 Apr 2018, 09:50

Guys, I've been going round in circles and need some assistance.

I'm looking at designing a PCB that plugs directly into an arduino Mega2560. I searched the net and found a library file that had the pins in the correct position, and I could add this to the PCB editor without issue. However it would appear that there is no actual components used, and just the pattern exists which I'm guessing is just a group of pads placed at the correct location, with a board placed around it?

However I would really like to work from a schematic to build my shield rather than adding components to the PCB layout and then manually routing traces. Is there any way I can create a component from the lib file so I can create the schematic and then build the PCB from that ?

I'm running ver 2.4.0.2

Thanks

Malcolm

You can manually create the symbol in Component Editor and attach the pattern you have.
Try to search bsdl file for this divece, it can help you to get pin names and numbers.
Just import bsdl using Library - Import menu.
