This files is blocked from changes

#1 Post by allenpitts » 01 Oct 2022, 09:11

Hello DipTrace Forum,

Recently when a .dip file is opened to make updates a dialogue
box opens which says:
''This file is blocked from changes by Allen Pitts
desktop 4352sK5 (10/01/2022 9:53:15 AM)
Please enter another filename.'

But obviously I am Allen Pitts and changing
the file name means the changes are made to a new
file and the intent is to change the file which
is being blocked from being opened.

How to avoid this message please?

Thanks.

Allen Pitts

Hello Alex and the DipTrace forum,

Thanks for your excellent answer.

Both of the posts were read.
The post that has the URL
viewtopic.php?p=31219#p31219
cites two cases
1. file that already opened by another user
2. if the file was closed incorrectly.
In the second case, you can release the file if you search and delete hidden file with
tildas in file name in the same folder with DipTrace file.
In case 1. I am the only one who uses this computer and hard drive so unless my
wife is sneaking into my office to open DipTrace files this a very low probability.
In case 2. A search for all files with a tilde. Some were found but not in the folder
where the .dip file is stored that gave the error.

It looks like this post is also about tildes.

Found some interesting articles on searching for tildes in Microsoft Windows 10
File Explorer

Unfortunately, still getting the 'This file is blocked from changes by Allen Pitts...'
message. It would just be an ignorable annoyance except that instead of making changes
to the existing file DipTrace forces a renaming of the file which makes versioning
difficult or impossible.

Thanks.

Allen Pitts
