Text on signal layer

#1 Post by rick.curl » 14 May 2020, 07:51

I'm doing some PCB's that will be given out as business cards. On the front of the PCB I'd like to have some text on the signal layer, but I can't figure out hoe to keep it from being covered by the solder mask. I can do a rectangular keepout, but I'd really like to have the soldermask cover the board except for the text. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

This will uncover all copper elements on the Top layer without additional solder mask expansion (solder mask openings will be exact)...
1) Export the Top layer to a DXF file (same units, enable [x]Use Design Origin) .
2) Import the newly-created DXF file into the Top Mask layer (same units, Import Mode: Add, Convert to: Top Mask, do not enable other options).
3) Confirm results using 3D Preview.

Thanks, Tom! I never would have thought of that. It sounds like a reasonable approach. I'll try it tonight.
