If you use Shape router, open autorouter setup, go to "Settings" tab, select option "Use priority layer direction" and change it to "Off" for one layer.
If you use Grid router, open autorouter setup, unselect "Use all layers" option and set number of layers = 1. Also enable jumper wires, if possible.

great that worked, if I've already auto-routed my layout, for example I had already auto-routed it for a 2 layer board, but I wanted to redo it and auto-route it for a single layer, I can't just hit auto-route again, I ended up going back to my schematic and creating a new PCB, but is there a way I can just apply a new auto-route with the rules for a single layer board... or does this have to be done from the original rats nest?

thanks

You should unroute a layout, apply new settings and run autorouter.

Shape and grid routers are two built-in autorouters. We suggest to use the shape router in most cases because it is more powerful, efficient and faster. The only exception is the case of single-sided boards with jumpers (the shape router can't create jumpers).

@alex
Thank you.

That's why my auto router is not providing jumper. You saved my time.

please suggest me one thing.
I'm designing guitar effects pedal's pcbs, which are
1. single layer.
2. analog circuit.
3. Under 9v dc.
4. under 1W power.
5. Usually there are 3-4 potentiometers, 2-3 op-amps, and couple of passive components.

should i use the auto-router or not?

You can try auto-router, why not. If result is good for you, board is routed and there are no DRC and connectivity errors then it's fine. But I personally prefer manual routing.
