Assembly variants?

#1 Post by PMK Bo » 28 May 2020, 13:37

Hi,
How am I able to handle variants of assembly, BOM, components? Is there a general approach to variants in DipTrace?
Thanks for any kind of answer.

We plan big changes in BOM export in version 4.1. They are BOM export from PCB Layout, interactive BOM. Also we plan to add assembly variants in BOM and Pick & Place exports.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask- but does DipTrace (in the current version or the 4.1 beta) support including parts on the BOM that are necessary for the end product, but which are not part of the PCB itself?
For example, mechanical fasteners, standoffs, enclosures, etc. Bolt or clip-on heatsinks, insulating washers, removable fuses, detachable antennas, etc would also be in this category.

It would be great to have a single tool that can export a complete BOM sufficient to hand to a purchasing department, that would include all of the PCB and ancillary parts required for a product. But obviously these ancillary parts would need to be treated separately, as they wouldn't have pads or placements on the PCB, nor would they be anything that a Pick & Place machine would use or care about.

Thanks!

You can create components without attached patterns and place them on schemtic. These components will appear in BOM but don't appear on PCB. That works without assembly variants. With new feature it will become more flexible.
