Question re Product Dim. vs. Recomm. Land Pattern

#1 Post by arielberschadsky » 25 Nov 2018, 05:12

I am creating the pattern for the following component: Bourns 4814P-1-331LF. This is a 7-resistor (isolated) network SMD component. The datasheet for this component provides both the "Product Dimensions" and the "Recommended Land Pattern." As I design the pattern in Diptrace, should the pattern conform to the Product Dimensions or the Recommended Land Pattern?

Thank you.

Both.

Follow the "Recommended Land Pattern" shown on the datasheet for pad sizes and locations.
Use the "Product Dimensions" to determine the overall physical size of the component. Will it crash into anything when the assembled PCB is installed in the final product?

Thanks. In this case, since the Product Dimensions are within the boundaries of the Recommended Land Pattern, I will focus on the RLP. Your approach certainly makes sense in those situations where the component itself might extend horizontally beyond the RLP (or be very tall vertically).
