Manufacturer Says Board File Missing

#1 Post by allenpitts » 14 Jun 2018, 03:01

Hello DipTrace forum,

Placed order twice with manufacturer for PCBs
They keep coming back saying:
'There is no board outline in the zip file and we don't know how
to cut your boards'

In the zip file attached there is a file
7219_Board_180802_c.gbr

That is the board file.

The file show a simple rectangle, 160mm x 45mm.

Why does the manufacturer say that is not a board file?

Thanks.

Allen Pitts, Dallas Texas

PS Perhaps this is related to why the manufacturer
cannot read 7219_Board_180802_c.gbr
I tried to upload just the 7219_Board_180802_c.gbr
instead of the whole zip file.
When I clicked 'Open' to upload it returned
'Error invalid file extension'
Does the post attachment only take GIF, JPG, PNG,
and image files?

PSS Uploaded JPG of Gerber Viewer of
7219_Board_180802_c.gbr

Who is the manufacturer? Many board houses require specific file name suffixes for different layers. This is how those manufacturers identify the purpose of each individual Gerber file. Here is an example of what OSH Park would like to see - http://docs.oshpark.com/troubleshooting/naming-pattern

p.s. It looks like you exported the Board (filled drawing figure) instead of the Board Outline (empty drawing figure). That might be the cause for the confusion on the manufacturer's side.

Hello TomG and the Dip Trace forum,

I submitted three times and got my order canceled three times at JLCPCB.

Yesterday ordered from Seeed Studio. They also say there is no board file
when in fact there is a file called 7219_Board_180802_c.gbr

Part of the problem is both JLCPCB and Seeed are in China so when it is
2:25 PM in Dallas TX it is 3:25 AM in HongKong (JLCPCB).

When they finally wake up and look at my order, which admittedly could
have some defect, an email is dispatched that says 'No board file
like draw I box please'.

7219_Board_180802_c.gbr was generated by an export from DipTrace
which is a great piece of software and so much more intuitive than Eagle.
Will see if a Board Outline export option is available.

Thank you for your time, courtesy and expertise.

Hi Allen,

I know this is late but this may help others. What the issue is here is that the PCB mfg is looking for the correct file name extension and in the case of your board outline the file name extension would most likely be your_filename.GKO

The file extension .GKO is what is important here. From Diptrace you would export the Board Outline.gbr and then rename it with an filehane extension of, for example, .GKO

You'll have to rename all of your exported gerber filename extensions from .gbr to whatever is appropriate for each layer to what each PCB mfg.is expecting.

Take a look at this for more info on how to rename your files for JLCPCB:
https://support.jlcpcb.com/article/29-s ... g-patterns

Other board houses will have similar requirements i.e. as Tom posted, OSHpark:
http://docs.oshpark.com/troubleshooting/naming-pattern/

Late answer... but what you are showing is not the board online but the board area... which is usefull when you panelize design.
So basically they are right you are wrong.
In your case the board outline should have been a simple (no fill) rectangle.

Hello, in the face of your situation, I have not experienced Gerber problems, generally submit Gerber to the manufacturer, WellPCB is good, I generally cooperate with him, have not had problems!

I think they are right.
See below 3 situations, outline in yellow.
It's can be defined as 3 type of outline if you don't have other specifications.

Oh, okay, I ran into the same problem and sent them a full rectangle as well, I'll retry with an outline and a different file name and see what happens.
