Net class philosophy

Net classes can be defined in Schematic, but the details are added in Layout. When you Renew Layout From Schematic in Layout, you can choose which version of the net classes to use (Schematic or Layout). I set up a number of complicated class-to-class clearance relationships in Layout for inner vs o...

Nets in more than one class?

I just discovered that a given net can only be assigned to one class. Is that true? I had some nets in various classes I was using to define high voltage clearance, and when I named them in another class for trace/via sizing they were removed from their high voltage classes. Why can't I put a net in...

Re: Selectively hide ref des?

Nice! Thank you, that does it. I had to modify my test point components though. When they are just a pad, they show up as "pad" in the Properties tab rather than "component", which allows you to turn off the ref des. If I add a dummy shape on the Top Assy layer (or other) the test point shows up as ...

Selectively hide ref des?

I have some components which are just a single pad, which I connect to ground or a test point in my schematic. There can be a dozen or two of these in a design. Often I don't want the ref des for these pads to appear in the layout -- GND1, GND2, GND3, etc, just clutters things up. Is there a way to ...

Re: View/Edit class to class clearance?

OK, I see where I can select "Class" and "To Classes" after clicking the Class to Class button, and it shows clearances I've already set up. It would be nice to have them all displayed in a table, but I can work with them individually like this. Thank you.

Re: High voltage DRC

The Class to Class button only allows me to set a single clearance between net classes. I want to set different clearances for different objects, like trace-to-trace and pad-to-pad. You can do this within a class, but I don't see how to do this between classes.

Re: Holes in thermal SMT pads in Pattern Editor?

This works, but it's awfully awkward. There can be many thermal holes on many ICs, and they each need to be individually added. Also, when you Renew Layout From Schematic the added holes are lost. Renew usually happens a few times during layout, as things change and to keep the schematic and layout ...

View/Edit class to class clearance?

I don't see a way to view or edit the net-class-to-net-class clearances I'm setting up. Is there a way to do this? I have 8 classes defined with different spacing for each, some of which are related to others, and if I can't see what I've already done that becomes difficult. I also need to know what...

High voltage DRC

I'm doing a high-voltage power supply layout. I have groups of nets which need to be a certain clearance from other groups. Within each group the clearance is small, since voltages between nets within a group are low. So I have placed nets which are close to the same voltage in separate classes. Vol...

Re: Holes in thermal SMT pads in Pattern Editor?

Thanks, Alex. I have done this before to map one component pin to multiple pattern pads, but it doesn't seem to work here. The first problem is getting Component Editor to see the through holes in order to connect them to the SMT pad. With the SMT pad on top of the through holes Component Editor doe...
