4 layer PCBs (w/power & ground planes) - step-by-step??
Is there a tutorial somewhere on setting up a 4 layer PCB with inner power and ground planes, and signal traces routed on the top and bottom? I've tried to do it without success. Will the autorouter insert vias, etc. as needed to connect nets to the power and ground planes? I can get 2-layer boards ...

Re: Typo error in tutorial
OK, another small mistake in the tutorial. Or maybe a small bug in DipTrace - I'm not sure. On page 17, it describes how to use "Show: Name and Part", but DipTrace doesn't work the way it's described there. If you do "Show: Name and Part" only the part number shows up, but not th...

Re: Understanding libraries
Thanks, @tomg. Unfortunately those pop-ups aren't terribly informative. I discovered that if I search the library for "HDR" a set of pretty standard-looking Berg headers are there. I can't figure out which library they're actually in, tho. Also, a friend who's been using DipTrace told me t...

Re: Text macros for filename, date/time?
See this thread - http://www.diptrace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10787 I'll take that as a "no, DipTrace doesn't do that". Thanks. I certainly agree with your suggestions there. While making a tool to draw title blocks might be a bit of work, I think offering a few simple text macr...

Text macros for filename, date/time?
Are there text macros that can be used for the schematic filename, last update date/time?
I'd like to setup my title block so the filename and modification date/time get automatically filled.

Can DipTrace do this? How?

Re: Internet Connectivity Requirements
Easy to test - just disable your network and launch the program.
If it works, you're good.
(Yes, they might have a date limit or something like that, but in extremis you can always fake the date/time to get the program to work.)

Understanding libraries
Newbie struggling to understanding how the libraries are organized. 1 - Does "Symbols EIC" mean IEC symbols (is EIC a typo?) 2 - How does "Con Board In" differ from "Con Headers" and "Con Wire to Board"? Those all sound very similar to me. 3 - Where do I find ...

Typo error in tutorial
Page 10, section 2.3 (version dated 3/10/2016): "Library tools \ Add Library... should be "Library \ Add Library... That's just FYI. If I find other mistakes I'll let you know. I'm just running thru the tutorial. Diptrace is a breath of fresh air compared to Eagle (which I've been using fo...
