Title Block Editor improvements

#1 Post by Tomg » 14 Dec 2015, 02:49

The Title Block Editor needs to be overhauled. Some of the problems I see with the current setup are as follows...
1) It is difficult to create a new Title Block because there are no drawing tools. The user is forced to specify column widths and row heights, figure out how to divide/combine various columns to make them line up or be offset from columns in other rows, work around the many missing system variables, etc.
2) There are only two system variables available for the Title Block: SHEET (sheet name) and FILE (filename).
3) Whenever DipTrace is re-installed (e.g. updated), any custom Title Blocks are erased and are no-longer available for re-use.

Here is what needs to happen to fix the Title Block Editor...
1) Allow the user to draw the Title Block using line drawing tools. No more Excel-type spreadsheet tools.
2) Make available a full complement of system variables:
* TITLE: document title
* NUMBER: document number
* DESCRIPTION: document description (the user could use PAGENAME here, instead)
* REVISION: document revision
* AUTHOR: name of author
* FILETIME: time of day file was last modified
* FILEDATE: date file was last modified
* FILENAME: name of file
* PAGE: current page number
* PAGES: total number of pages
* PAGENAME: name of page
3) Allow the user to save custom Title Blocks in a different folder/path to prevent updates from destroying them.

I second this! Also make this variable system constant throughout the progrma, so the smae information cvan be used in PCB layout and normal textboxes

+1 I completely agree! This is causing us a lot of grief when trying to revision the designs.

Usually in title block there is adesigner or factory's logo.
More times it's an image.
In my schematics i import a draw from file with place picture icon bat every time that i copy my schematics or move it to an other directory, i must redraw the image.
I'd like to have a logo associated to my custom title block.
Thank you

Silvio
