I've just switched to Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my laptop. I had to run the diptrace installer in compatibility mode to install and to install the 3D models as well. I was able to run the schematic editor, Pattern and Component editors, but I couldn't run the PCB editor. I tried to run the PCB editor in compatibility mode with no success.

This is a bug report and a request for help as well. I know Windows 8 Consumer Preview is really a Windows 8 Beta, but I would like to get DipTrace working.

Hi Tim,

Try to force Windows GDI graphic modes in PCB Layout. You can do it with attached registry key, unzip it and run.
We will try Diptrace on Windows 8 when it will be released or be close to final release.

I ran the registry patch and restarted, but no luck. :( I guess I'll have to use a different version of Windows.

This is known issue - the reason is our protection system. We will probably switch to another protection as it is quite outdated and no new versions since 2006.
Unprotected program files work well.

You don't have to install Windows 8 on real hardware to try it out.

After agreeing to allow Microsoft to monitor my computer while beta testing Windows 7, Microsoft said some features would not work properly (some not at all) until after the production release. After receiving my half-price pro version from Microsoft, some features of my old programs still did not work, several programs - not at all. Microsoft answered my questions promptly stating not all software companies had posted either new drivers or was trying to use drivers written for the beta version of Windows 7. The production release of Windows 8 will probably load almost all the drivers you may need, although some companies may choose to wait until all the dust settles before making their new drivers available for download.

Sorry this doesn't provide a solution, just some in-sight about beta versions.

One final thought about becoming a beta version tester - be sure you have an excelent anti-virus program and firewall, the hackers will use auto-dialers and IP spoofing trying to break through your firewall.

Hello all,
I installed the latest Diptrace on Windows 8 Preview. Have same problems as others before me. The PCB Layout takes about 3 minutes to open and 2 minutes to close. What i did notice when opening and closing is, CPU load averages about 65% with spikes in the 80% range on a 2.6ghz AMD dual core. And the Ethernet usage goes way up.

Hay look iam the 8th post on Windows 8. :D

Anyhow, HTH
Troy
