If your default printer is a network printer and it is off line then when diptrace starts up it ( or win7) tries to contact the printer over the net work and takes about 4 minutes to time out. I changed my default printer to a local one , which actually said offline and diptrace started up as normal.
Note to developers: If possible, make it so startup does not hang in this situation. If the startup has to hang for some reason, put up a "waiting for printer" dialog box after a few seconds of waiting.
