Page 10, section 2.3 (version dated 3/10/2016): "Library tools \ Add Library... should be "Library \ Add Library...

That's just FYI. If I find other mistakes I'll let you know.

I'm just running thru the tutorial. Diptrace is a breath of fresh air compared to Eagle (which I've been using for years). Diptrace's UI is 10000% better. So far I really, really like it. :)

The manual is a little difficult to read - it's obvious it wasn't written by native English speakers. (But then the Eagle manuals weren't either.)

OK, another small mistake in the tutorial. Or maybe a small bug in DipTrace - I'm not sure.

On page 17, it describes how to use "Show: Name and Part", but DipTrace doesn't work the way it's described there.

If you do "Show: Name and Part" only the part number shows up, but not the RefDes. The only way to get both to show is to use the "Additional Marking" dialog (not described in the tutorial, but not difficult to figure out either).

Showing "Name and Part" makes sense for multi-part components. Try to place any multi-part component and see how it works. But for single-part components names only are shown.
If you want to display name and RefDes you need to use both main and additional markings.
