I need to create a custom pad for soldering some small surface mount photovoltaic cells to a PCB. Ideally, the component side of this pad will be rectangular, 4mm x 13mm. Here's the tricky part: I need to be able to solder the cells from the back side of the PCB, so I need one or more plated through holes with minimum copper around them on the back of the PCB. I tried creating a rectangular surface pad and placing several through-hole pads on it, but the design rule checks get upset with me when I try to do that.

Any thoughts as to the best way to do this?

Thanks!

Link surface and through-hole pads to the same pin when you attach the pattern to a component in Component editor or Schematic. All these pads will belong to the same net and DRC won't show errors in PCB Layout.

Thanks, Alex!

I'm out of the office today but will try this as soon as I return on Monday.
