In the Pattern Editor, when an existing pattern is changed in the User Patterns library, saving the changed pattern should bring up a dialog window similar to the example below. Enabling the option Update related User Components libraries would ensure replacement of all old versions of this pattern in all User Components libraries. Clicking on Yes would save the new pattern in the currently-open pattern library, initiate an automated replacement process in the related component libraries and open another window to show the progress. Once the automated replacement process had finished, the progress window would close.

How is this done today (2016)? I have the same issue with the pattern editor, where once some adjustment is made in the pattern, how do I save this pattern back to the original library (which apparently is now not allowed) or at last smoothly save this pdated pattern to a User Library?

It's not intuitive at all, and I'm stumped right now...

To copy a pattern from the Pattern Editor design area into another library...
1) Click on Pattern Tools.
2) Select Copy Patterns to Another Library... in the pop-up menu.
3) Click on the arrow of the Library Group drop-down list in the Copy Patterns to Another Library dialog box.
4) Select the appropriate Library Group.
5) Select the target library.
6) Select OK.
