Hi,

I've been using DipTrace for a long time and am quite familiar with most of the features.

I usually do two layer boards but I recently laid out a 4 layer board.

I can't find any tutorial of how to define a new layer, such as GND, have it cover the whole area and assign a signal to it.

Would someone please lead me through the steps to add a new layer, have it cover the whole board area and assign a signal to it.

The wrong way I did it was to assign it a signal, the do a copper pour over most of the board area. I couldn't cover the whole area because it has rounded corners.

Thank you for your help.

Jim

Hi Jim,

In PCB Layout
1) select Layer from the top menu bar
2) give it a name
3) select: Plane
4) select the net you want it to be from the pull down menu
5) you may want to change the color

1. Add internal layer using "Layer/ Layer setup" from main menu. Give layer name, color, plane type and assign net to the layer.
2. Switch to the new layer and place copper pour on it. Connect copper pour to the same net as the layer. In copper pour properties dialog window, go to border tab and click on "Depending on board" and "Snap to board outline" items.
