Why does export to Gerber shift the origin ?

#1 Post by NewtownGal » 07 Sep 2019, 11:21

I'm a newbie to DipTrace. I'm having a problem exporting a pcb layout to Gerber.

I've designed a simple test board that is 1.6" square. I've put a 1" dia cutout in the middle of it. The origin is where one would expect, at the lower left hand corner of the board. But when I export to Gerber, and click Preview, the origin has moved 1 cm down and to the left. And sure enough, when I export the board outline and view it in any online Gerber Viewer, the board design has shifted.

Why is it shifting and how do I avoid it ?

Thank you in advance.

Diptrace has the option to export PCB designs with an Offset. You can have your gerbers use a different origin than your original design file. That is useful for some, but not others.

In your case, I would simply check the "Use Design Origin" (in the Gerber export menu, right above "Export" and "Export All" buttons).

That solves it. Thank you. Don't know why there was an offset of 1 cm in both x and y.
