I have a schematic where I used diptrace libraries for pots, resistor packs and so on.

In all the standard libs "R" is used as a base for all these. But I prefer "RV" for pots,"RP" for packs.

I tried copying the part into a user library, editing the RefDes, and then replacing the component in the schematic editor. But the part stays marked as "R10.1" and so on. The base of the RefDes does not change.

Is there a way to do this? is this a bug?

You can change default RefDes if you load a library in Component editor, select a component and change the RefDes field. You can edit custom libraries but it is not possible to edit standard ones.

If you place new component in Schematic it has default RefDes from library. Then you can edit actual RefDes. Actual RefDes has higher priority than default RefDes from library. Therefore RefDes is not changed if you replace the component in the Schematic editor.
