How to make a complicated footprint

#1 Post by tyro » 26 Mar 2017, 02:05

Now I'm making a connector's footprint as shown below.
I tried to make this shape by rectangle combination, but this way causes DRC errors, so this is unusable technique.
Should I draw the polygon consistently with changing X/Y grid?

Does anyone knows how to make a complicated footprint like this?
If I can use free/open-source format converter (DXF -> ASCII format -> Pattern Editor), I will use the utility.

This is an incorrect way:(

Import the DXF from many 'freeware' CAD programs works, I use TurboCAD since I have owned it forever and it takes only seconds to do a layout.. LibreCAD works and is 'free'.
When you import you are allowed to set layers to DipTrace layers which makes it simple.

Hi KevinA, My problem has been solved.

I overlooked that [Pattern]-[Import from DXF...] menu.
I looked [Library]-[Import] only.

Thanks for your advice.

I have to thank you, I forgot (getting old) a project I was working on and while looking at examples of TurboCAD DXF files I found:

a shield I made to support 4 different products from a GPS supplier.
