My circuit consists of an MCU board separate from an I/O board. There will be one MCU PCB and many I/O boards. I show on the schematic the connection between the two using only 2 headers.

When I "make PCB", of course it puts all components on ONE board. If I create another SHEET and paste the MCU schematic there, with the I/O stuff still on the MAIN SHEET, when I "make PCB", it STILL puts all components on ONE board.

I was hoping that by using 2 sheets, I could make two separate PCBs. This is mostly for convenience, having the entire project in one file but spread over the two sheets.

Any other way to do this, other than creating two separate schematics in two separate computer files?

I thought about using hierachical sheets but I don't think this will work either.

There is no other way. Single schematic file is converted to single board file. It does not matter how many sheets schematic has, it is not possible to convert single schematic to two or more boards.
