I am practicing my manual routing and have a question. I can hit the centre of a SMD pad for the start of the trace but when I end it on another pad, the trace always skews and doesn't come horizontally onto the pad. Is there some setting that fixes this? My grid spacing is set for 10mils.

Here is my method for reducing the number of grid size changes and creating horizontal entry and exit paths. For the following example I have set up custom trace angles and purposely put the origins (centers) of the connecting pads off the grid. It helps to have a grid spacing that is not too small...

1) Click on the first pad (A) to start the trace on the pad's origin (center).
2) Press the space bar to get the proper trace angle before clicking on a convenient grid point (B).
3) Move your mouse cursor to the second pad and, before clicking on its origin (center), press the space bar to get the desired trace angle, then click on the origin (center) of the second pad (C).
