Look for the red exclamation mark. Click that to report a post as spam etc.

Also note that a moderated forum has to have posts approved before they appear. This might mean that your post would not appear for the better part of a day at times. Would you want that?

posts have been reported.

Moderated means only the first 1 or 2 posts are delayed. Why is that such a big deal for you?

Hi Rick,
The forum is moderated, but in different way than yahoo. Small amount of spam is passed through, but we delete such topics.

In that the case, contact to Admin and provide spammer's name. He will block that account.

There are tools that will help. All they have to do is install them. See viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1801 for details.

The big problem is that nobody is monitoring the forums and deleting spam outside of regular business hours Monday through Friday. This could be easily fixed by giving a few trusted users the ability to delete spam.

I don't understand the reluctance to try out some of the appropriate mods for phpBB.

I think number of spamers isn't critical. It is easier to delete their accounts at the moment. But in future we might use appropriate mods if the problems becomes more annoyed.
