3D issue and a suggestion

#1 Post by MikeK » 16 Jun 2011, 02:27

I've tried playing around with the new 3D feature and I'm having a great time and it's really impressive.
I've tried several programs and have had a few issues/observations. I've tried using Blender to generate 3ds files. I can import them into diptrace and look good when attached in to the pattern However, when I use a part made thus in a pcb and view it in 3d, the parts are there, but are semi transparent and have no height. The workaround I've been using is to import the Blender .3ds files into Wings and saving them as .wrl files. The resultant view looks good in both the pattern editor and on the end PCB. Is this normal.
Also, we make very small boards that are heavily populated. Unfortunately, there is no room for a silk screen. Is there any plan to be able to turn the silkscreen layer off while in the #d viewing mode. It would be very helpful.

Regards,

Mike Kasiecki
